Work experience opportunities in Prosthetics and Orthotics

Careers in Prosthetics and Orthotics are a fascinating blend of engineering, science and both physical and psychological patient care but are generally a lesser known area of healthcare.
Have a look at the resources below, along with the attachments at the bottom of the page, to find out more:
- The Careers section on the BAPO website is excellent: https://www.bapo.com/careers/. It has information on the different careers options within the professions, details of the different training routes available and case studies from people within the professions. They also have a careers email address: CareersinPandO@BAPO.com
- The NHS Health Careers website is always a really useful source of information: https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/allied-health-professionals/roles-allied-health-professions/prosthetistorthotist

Apprenticeships can sometimes be available, usually found through specialist companies that provide services to the NHS. For anyone considering a direct entry route into a degree course, the NHS Learning Support Fund is available to provide a degree of financial support for many healthcare degree qualifications: www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/career-planning/study-and-training/considering-or-university/financial-support-university. If you qualify for funding, the minimum payment is usually £6,000 per year for Prosthetics and Orthotics which isn’t means-tested and which wouldn’t need to be repaid.
