Year 9

In Year 9 each teaching group is taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics topics separately. In the first three half terms we complete our lower school programme of study, after that we teach the first topics of our GCSE programme of study.

Details for each Year 9 topic:

Plant growth ...  Photosynthesis, Aerobic Respiration, Plant adaptations, Plant products, Farming techniques and issue.

GCSE Cells... Animal cells, Plant cells, Prokaryote cells, Microscopy, Cell differentiation, Specialised cells, Stem cells, DNA, Cell cycle, Diffusion, Osmosis, Active transport, Surface area to volume ratio.

Making materials... Ceramics, Polymers, Composites, Issues with materials, Recycling.

Reactivity... Physical and Chemical change, Gas pressure, Reactivity series, Corrosion, Hydrocarbons, Energy changes, Displacement reactions, Extracting metals.

GCSE Periodic table... Atomic structure, Electron arrangement, Bonding and equations, Metals and non-metals,  Groups of the Periodic table (0, 1 and 7), Transition metals.
