Year 9

Year 9 forms a solid foundation for GCSE study and hones students’ reading and writing skills across all assessment objectives. Assessments begin to more closely mirror GCSE examinations, and students are introduced to GCSE Literature texts towards the end of the year.

Topic – Battle of the Sexes

Shakespeare study: ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ and creative writing exploring representations of gender

Summer 1

Topic – War

Exploration of a range of texts centred around war, with writing to present a viewpoint, followed by study of GCSE Literature War Poetry – AQA Anthology ‘Power and Conflict’

Summer 2

Year 9 Library novel – ’15 Days Without a Head’ by Dave Cousins
