Observations at NDHS
“Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.”
― Salvador Dalí
This is the quote we started the September 2017 Staff Development Day with. It is meant to reassure; to remind ourselves that everyone one of us is on a journey of professional development that will continue throughout our entire career. It serves as a reminder that teachers have off days and brilliant lessons and that ultimately we must depersonalise judgement away from the individual and focus in on the practice. At Notre Dame, we talk about 'great teaching', not 'great teachers'.
We don't prescribe one 'style' or 'way' of teaching. That said we are duty bound to avoid habituation; be open to new ideas and to always consider not only what works but what will work best? At Notre Dame we judiciously utilise evidence based research.
Within our work, we must never forget the value of relationships. We are here to serve our children and young people and to spread the good news of God's love through our words and through our actions.
The Lord, your God, loves you.
- Deuteronomy 23:6b
