International Women in Engineering Day 2017

To mark International Women in Engineering Day 2017, 120 Year 8 and Year 9 female students were invited to attend a full day of workshops run by EDT (Engineering Development Trust) and sponsored by the RAF.  Representatives from the RAF came and spoke to the girls about careers in Engineering and other STEM related careers.  The girls worked exceptionally well in teams of 5 to create the tallest and strongest Helipad structure, complete the 'Egg Challenge' and build a Kinex car to transport emergency supplies across a bridge built by themselves.  The two winning teams won a goodie bag of supplies from the RAF.  The feedback from the girls has been extremely positive and it is hoped that the event will have inspired many to consider future careers within STEM subjects.
